The Holiday season is definitely peak travel time. So with tons of people traveling the chances of your bag being late, lost, or misplaced is even higher around this time. But if you travel with a carry on only your bag is already with you so you don’t have to worry about it not being at your destinations baggage claim when you arrive. Plus, baggage fees are no joke (depending on which airline you fly with) So pack light! Its not fun getting to the gate then finding out your bag is too stuffed/too heavy and then your forced to pay for a checked bag. Not only will packing light and traveling with a carry on only help save you some time during this holiday travel season, it can also save you money!
2. Save time by checking in online & Printing your boarding pass at home
Checking in online and printing your boarding pass at home are both 2 great holiday travel tips that can and will save you so much time during this Holiday’s Travel Season. By checking in online you can simply arrive at the airport and go straight to security bypassing everyone who STILL needs to check in once they get to the airport. Some airlines will even charge you to check in with an agent at the counter, so basically I would say avoid the airline ticket counter completely if you can. Again checking in online will save you time and money! Quick tip: Depending on the airline your flying with, you can use your phone via the airlines mobile app as your mobile boarding pass! I know Southwest definitely has this feature.
3. Arrive at the airport early
You know how they say arrive at the airport 2-3 hours in advance during non peak travel times? Well during the holiday travel season, my holiday travel tip is to arrive EVEN EARLIER to give yourself even more time plan to LEAVE earlier so you can arrive earlier. You should give yourself at least an extra hour and a half in addition to the 2-3 hour recommended. You don’t wanna be stuck in the super long security lines when your plane is boarding and about to take off. They will leave you. So arrive at the airport early.
4. Stay connected
Traveling during the holidays typically means snow. I haaaate snow ya’ll. Another great holiday travel tip is to follow the airline you are flying with on social media, especially twitter! The airline will send out tweets, updates, and notifications if there are any cancellations or delays because of the snow. Another good holiday travel tip is to also be sure to follow the airport you’re flying out of on twitter AND check your email often for travel updates!
5. Fully charge electronics and have portable chargers
Do you know how hard it is to find an empty outlet in the airport on a regular day? So just imagine how difficult it is to get to a charger during the holidays when everyone is traveling. What happens if you’re on a layover and your next flight gets delayed? Having your electronics fully charged gives you something to do to pass the time while you wait in the airport, but what if you need to call airline customer service? Can’t do that with a dead phone, so having all your electronics charged will be super helpful.
6. Keep Calm
Last but not least, keep calm this Holiday season! It’ll make your travel days more merry and bright! If you follow my tips above then you will definitely be ahead of the crowd this Winter Holiday Travel Season!
