5 Free Must Have Apps for Travelers

Let me start by saying this, if you know me then you know I loovveeeeee google maps for iPhone, but Maps.me is a must have! This app works COMPLETELY OFFLINE! So even when you’re abroad (all countries & all cities) and not connected to wifi you can still find your way around the city.

Trip Advisor

This is probably my favorite app ever. It’s definitely my go to for hotel reviews, excursion suggestions/reviews, and even restaurant reviews. I love it because it shows reviews and pictures posted by actual travelers. Sometimes hotels post pictures that aren’t truly representative of what you get when you arrive, but I can always count on the reviews and pictures from TripAdvisor travelers to give me more realistic insight and what to actually expect.

Tv Food Maps

I’m a major foodie and when I’m traveling I want to try the foods specific to that area & TV Food Maps lets me do just that. It lets me eat like Guy Fieri, and lets be honest we all would love his job. The app shows restaurants of over 40 different tv shows including Diners, Drive ins, and DivesMan vs. Food, etc and shows which ones are nearby! I’ve used this app and found Ben’s Chili Bowl in Washington DC (where I was actually on the CNN episode for their anniversary), Hog Heaven in Nashville, Tennessee and Vortex Burger Bar in Atlanta, Georgia. It also lets you search other locations so you can plan a road trip to visit one of the 5000 restaurants listed. Check out other food worth traveling for here

Like A Local

This app allows you to, well live like a local. I do lots of research before I travel because I want to get an authentic experience and this app eliminates all of the tourist traps and shows you how to eat, drink, live, and explore like a local. Everything on the app is submitted by locals who have been living in that city for quite sometime and know all of the cool spots and tips.  It can be used 100% offline as a map as well.

Foodspotting is every foodies dream. It helps you find the food you’re craving simply by adding your location and typing in “Where can I find ______” This visual guide shows you actual pics from visitors and it also tells you what those who visit recommend.

  1. You can also list the Happy Cow App! Even though is mostly for vegetarians and vegans (and I don’t know if you’re one or not), it’s really good and complete! It spots not only the veggie restaurants, but also the “normal” ones with veg options as well as veg groceries, ice cream shops with these options, etc etc. I love it!
