A Weekend in Atlanta

Living in the Southern part of the United States has it’s travel perks such as being minutes from beautiful beaches and only a couple hours from big cities!

My boyfriend and our friends wanted to go to a Braves Baseball Game, so we decided to make a weekend trip of it. Everyone loves a good road trip!

Dining:

I am a major foodie, so before arriving in Atlanta I was already googling restaurants in the city that were featured on Food Network and The Travel Channel. Fortunately, there was a pretty big list, unfortunately, we didn’t get to try many of them because we were so impressed by The Vortex Bar and Grill so we had dinner there both Saturday and then again on Sunday.

The menu had a nice selection with something for everyone, but they boast about their burgers. They even offer an “eating challenge” which includes 8 slices of toast, 32 oz of ground sirloin, 28 slices of cheese, four fried eggs, 27 strips of bacon and 12 oz of mayo!

Aside from the eating challenge, they have various burgers with interesting toppings, including a fat elvis burger with peanut butter and bacon. My boyfriend and our 2 friends all agreed that these were the best burgers they have ever eaten.

Things to do:

Visit Piedmont Park

Fantastic views of downtown from Piedmont Park

Piedmont park has been called the “Central Park” of the South. Some of its features include a pool, cafe, a lake, & a botanical garden.

The CNN tour is a 50 minute guided walking tour. Entrance into the building is free and open to the public. The public area includes restaurants and shops. Reservations are highly recommended!

Go to a Braves game

We spent our last full day in Atlanta at the Braves Game. It was a perfect day for baseball. Our seats were only 16$!

This will be the Braves last season at Turner Field (pictured below) as they will be getting a new stadium next season!

Riding in the Uber!

Traffic & Parking in the city:

Since Atlanta is a very busy city, traffic can get pretty heavy and parking later in the day can be pretty difficult to find. It can also get pretty expensive. Luckily for us, we didn’t pay for parking AT ALL. We parked our car in one free location, then each of us downloaded Uber, and from the use of our friend’s code we each got free rides (4 free rides total).

All opinions are my own. All photos were taken by me.

  1. Love reading travel and food posts! If you have a smart phone, download the TVfoodMaps app! It has everything featured on TV food network in your area, and you can also do a roadtrip setting to see what is on your route from point A to point B. We used it all summer, and had some amazing meals! 🙂
